Raiders Nab Overtime Victory After Coaching Blunder Posted on (10-20-2008)
After a game where the Raiders defense looked strong, the Jets were still down only 3 points with mere seconds to play. The Jets line up for a field goal, the snap, the kick is NO GOOD... wait... Raiders coach Tom Cable called timeout to ice the kicker. The ill-advised move of the interim coach cost them the regulation victory as the Jets would make the field goal to send it into overtime.
Overtime turned out to be a battle of wills. Both teams were relentless on defense forcing the opposing team to punt multiple times in the extra period. The hero turned out to be Sebastian Janikowski. The Polish Hammer struck the ball and made a 57 yard field goal which is now the longest in Raiders franchise history to win the game 16-13. When the ball split the uprights, the crowds went ballistic like the team just won the Superbowl.
